Remember to measure both front and back. Gather enough planks to form a board that is a little thicker than your bars will be. Using a flat head screw driver assemble the roof rails to the top of the car by sxrewing the side rails and the cross bars together. Lay the crossbars on your side rails and grab one of your u bolts.

If you have factory roof racks that run from front to back you can build your own steel crossmembers using one inch square tubing cut to size and secured to the factory racks using carriage bolts. This will essentially create a glue lam beam that will form the bars. We will rip this into two crossbars later liberally glue the boards and clamp them together. Using your u bolt mark where holes need to be drilled on the underside of your crossbar.

The template indicates pre drilled holes which can be used to drilled holes directly into the roof of the car. After deciding on a general design in my head i headed to the hardware store s plumbing. You ll notice in the early pictures that four holes are drilled. Drill where you marked.

Ensure that the roof rack is in position and properly adjusted leaving good space at the centre.
